The season in advent - day six - Brunt's productive summer

Katherine Brunt had another productive summer, claiming 28 wickets in all formats for the Diamonds, England and Trent Rockets in the Hundred. And five of those were Indian superstar Shafali Verma!

The Yorkshire legend had a hold over the teenaged opening batter, starting with her wicket in the opening ODI of the summer at Bristol in late June.

Once the internationals were done, Brunt reminded 17-year-old Verma of her superiority by dismissing her both times in the Hundred when the Trent Rockets faced Birmingham Phoenix.

Brunt’s summer, book-ended by hauls of 4-23 and 4-22 whilst playing one-day matches for the Diamonds and England and also including 311 runs, sets her up well for a busy winter.

She will once again be England’s spearhead in the Ashes series Down Under in January and February followed by the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, with England the defending champions in the latter competition.

The 36-year-old has recently been awarded the Freedom of Barnsley, her home town, for her career achievements.

Depending upon any rest and rotation, Brunt could play her 250th international across all formats during the next few months.
