Leah Dobson had only made her Diamonds debut a week earlier, and her second appearance brought about an impressive match sealing 44 not out in the second Charlotte Edwards Cup group game.
The Diamonds opening T20 game hadn’t gone to plan, beaten by arch-rivals Thunder at Headingley a week earlier.
But this late June win, under lights against Sunrisers at Chelmsford, proved a resounding way to get back on track.
A polished bowling and fielding display had earlier limited the Sunrisers to 116-7 from their 20 overs. Jenny Gunn led the way with 3-25, while leg-spinner Katie Levick was superb with 2-23 alongside Phoebe Graham with 2-20.
In reply, 19-year-old Dobson top-scored at the top of the order to secure an eight-wicket win with 3.4 overs to spare.
Dobson, a powerful opening batter, hit three fours and two sixes in 52 balls, sharing an unbroken 87 for the third wicket with Sarah Taylor, who finished with 43 not out off 35.
Scarborough-born Dobson represented Yorkshire at age-group and senior level prior to debuting in regional cricket, and she once scored 161 off only 81 balls in an Under 17s county fixture.
